LEGAL AND CUSTOMS SUPPORT FOR IMPORTS
Imports should provide the owner with a calculated profit after purchasing, transport, customs payments and selling costs. Before ordering a consignment, the entrepreneur determines the goods, supplier price, delivery terms, transport, UKT ZED code, customs value and documents required to import the specific goods.
UBC helps align the contractual, banking and customs elements of the transaction so that, after release, the accountant receives a complete accounting package.
How Much Will the Goods Cost after Import?
The owner calculates the full landed cost before paying the supplier: purchase price, transport, insurance, duty, import VAT, broker services and other expenses directly relating to the consignment. This amount is compared with the planned sale price and stock-turn period. The entrepreneur therefore sees the expected margin before money is transferred abroad.
The UKT ZED code affects the duty rate and specific import requirements. Determination requires the exact name, composition, intended use, technical characteristics and other properties of the goods. If the product is subject to special requirements, the owner obtains certificates, declarations of conformity or other mandatory documents from the supplier in advance.
Customs value is determined under Customs Code rules and documents for the specific shipment. The broker uses the contract, invoice, transport documents and other evidence of the price components. The owner knows in advance which expenses form part of customs value and how they affect the total payments.
Incoterms allocate delivery costs and obligations between seller and buyer. The owner needs to know which part of transport is already included in the supplier's price, where risk transfers and which costs are paid separately. This directly affects the consignment calculation and the documents used to determine customs value.
Contract, Bank and Customs Clearance
In the foreign trade contract, the parties define the goods, price, currency, timing, payment procedure, liability and delivery terms under Incoterms. The specification and invoice should correspond to the agreement in product range, quantity and price. The director signs the documents after the owner understands the full economics of the consignment.
For an international payment, the bank may request the contract, invoice and an explanation of the goods and counterparty. The director provides documents concerning the real purchase and payment terms. Banking data should match the contract and accounting records so that the payment and subsequent import relate to the same transaction.
The customs broker prepares the declaration on the basis of the importer's and carrier's documents. After release, the accountant receives the customs declaration, payment documents and transport documents and determines the initial cost of the goods. The owner sees the actual landed cost of the consignment and can set the sale price using real expenses.
The country of origin may affect the duty rate where an applicable international agreement exists and the importer has proper proof of origin. The broker checks the document for the specific goods and shipment. The owner compares the saving with the cost of obtaining the required evidence before ordering a large consignment.
First Consignment and Regular Imports
For the first shipment, it is useful to review the supplier, contract, product description, code, preliminary payment calculation and transport method before payment. The owner can change commercial terms before dispatch, while changes still preserve control over costs.
After a successful import, the entrepreneur uses the agreed product description, code, contract forms and document list for subsequent consignments. The price, quantity, date, transport and information that has genuinely changed are updated. Regular imports require less administrative time and the director can plan purchases and working capital more quickly.
UBC can support a first or subsequent shipment together with your broker, carrier and accountant. For an initial assessment, a product description, supplier commercial offer, draft contract and delivery terms are sufficient. The owner receives a preliminary cost calculation and a list of documents relevant specifically to the goods concerned.
After goods are received, the warehouse and accounting team should have the same information on quantity, product range and actual landed cost. The owner compares it with the preliminary calculation and sees where any difference arose: exchange rate, transport, customs payments or other costs. This information helps plan the price and profit of the next purchase more accurately.
Need Support or a Specialist in Your Region?
If the goods have already been selected, send their description, supplier country, price and delivery terms. UBC will propose a customs or legal specialist in your region and agree the support scope before the consignment is paid for.
